Operation Pacific
ActionAdventureDramaRomanceWar111 min
During World War II in the Pacific, Lt. Cmdr. Duke E. Gifford is second-in-command aboard the USS Thunderfish, where defective torpedoes turn every patrol into a gamble. John Wayne is Gifford, a submarine officer who presses the Navy to fix the weapons problem while shifting between Pearl Harbor duty and missions at sea. The conflict is personal as well: Gifford is trying to win back his estranged wife, a nurse, with Patricia Neal opposite him and a Navy flier competing for her attention — a complication made worse by the fact that the pilot is his commander's younger brother.
