Hotel America
DramaRomance95 min
Catherine Deneuve is Hélène, a pill-dependent anesthesiologist in Biarritz, still mourning her boyfriend when a car accident throws her into the path of Gilles, a drifting young man who lives rent-free at his mother’s hotel. Patrick Dewaere’s Gilles fixates on Hélène and slowly wears down her distance, even as he remains bound to Bernard, a petty crook who spends his nights mugging gay men. The film tracks a romance between mismatched people moving through grief, dependency, and loyalties that keep pulling them in different directions.
