Vinicius

Documentary124 min

Brazilian poet, playwright, and songwriter Vinícius de Moraes comes into view through archive footage and the voices of the musicians, friends, and family who knew him. Maria Bethânia and Chico Buarque are among the artists recalling his work and his place in Brazilian cultural life, while appearances from figures including Antonio Carlos Jobim trace the partnerships that helped shape bossa nova and samba. Moving between songs, memories, and rare images, the film sketches a portrait of Vinícius’ wit, sociability, and poetic influence, from his lyrics and love affairs to the social and political currents around him.
