Memories of Matsuko

The story

After his estranged aunt dies, Sho sorts through Matsuko’s belongings and begins reconstructing the life she never explained. Eita Nagayama’s Sho follows a trail of memories, rumors, and half-buried family history, while Miki Nakatani is Matsuko, seen across the turns that send her life toward isolation and tragedy. The film moves between mystery, comedy, drama, and musical fantasy as Sho pieces together who she was before she became a figure of gossip and distance in the family. What emerges is less a single secret than a chain of choices, setbacks, and relationships that reshaped her life.
