After her estranged mother’s death, teenage loner Purslane Will returns to New Orleans expecting to reclaim an empty house and instead finds two of her mother’s friends already living there. Scarlett Johansson is Pursy, wary and headstrong, while John Travolta’s Bobby Long is a former literature professor who has let his life drift. At Bobby’s side is Lawson Pines (Gabriel Macht), a younger writer trying to turn Bobby’s story into a novel. Forced to share a dilapidated home off Magazine Street, the three settle into a tense arrangement shaped by grief, dependency, and the unfinished history surrounding Pursy’s mother.
