In 1701 Japan, Lord Asano’s breach of palace law destroys his house and leaves thousands of retainers suddenly masterless. Out of that collapse, 47 ronin begin to organize against Lord Kira, the official held responsible for the catastrophe. The film traces the fall of the Asano clan and the slow assembly of its former samurai, framing the revenge story through court politics, clan loyalty, and the upheaval that follows a single punishment. Kinnosuke Nakamura and Shin’ichi Chiba are among the faces in the large ensemble.
