Scott Voss is a high school biology teacher so checked out that even his students barely notice him, until budget cuts put the school’s music program at risk. Kevin James is Scott, who decides to raise the money himself by stepping into mixed martial arts fights for the payout. Salma Hayek’s Bella, the school nurse, is one of the first people to question the plan, while music teacher Marty Streb (Henry Winkler) gives Scott a reason to keep showing up. The story bounces between school-day mishaps and the escalating chaos of Scott’s unlikely second job.
