This Must Be the Place
ActionAdventureComedyDrama118 min
Living in Ireland and long past his rock-star peak, a wealthy, bored musician heads to the United States after his father’s death to track down the ex-Nazi who tormented him. Sean Penn is the aging performer at the center of the search, carrying the film’s strange, drifting energy as the trip pulls him from comfortable retirement into a personal reckoning. Frances McDormand appears as his wife, part of the life he leaves behind when the search takes him across America. Paolo Sorrentino frames the story as part road movie, part family reckoning, with deadpan humor and a deliberately off-kilter rhythm.
