Everything Is Illuminated
ComedyDrama106 min
Elijah Wood is a young Jewish American collector who travels to Ukraine to find the woman who saved his grandfather during World War II. Guided by an eccentric local entourage, with Eugene Hutz among the people helping him along, he follows old photographs and family stories toward a village erased by the Nazis. The trip begins with comic misunderstandings and a scavenger’s eye for relics, then narrows into a search through memory, anti-Semitism, and the silences around one family’s past.
