In mythic Britain, the wizard Merlin grows up as old ways give ground to a new faith, and Queen Mab works to keep her power alive by shaping him into her champion. Instead, Merlin turns against her and is drawn into the rise and fall of Camelot, guiding kings, arranging alliances, and trying to hold a fragile kingdom together. As Arthur’s birth, Excalibur, and the Round Table enter the story, Mab keeps pressing from the shadows, turning personal wounds and courtly rivalries into larger disasters. Sam Neill leads Merlin’s life from childhood to old age as the legends of Britain are retold through his long struggle with the queen who made him.
