The History of Mr. Polly
Drama95 min
Alfred Polly drifts through life until an inheritance lets him marry, open a draper’s shop, and try to become the respectable small-town husband he was never meant to be. John Mills is Polly, a daydreaming, dissatisfied man whose heart isn’t in his business or his marriage to Miriam, with Betty Ann Davies as the cousin he hastily weds. As money troubles and domestic unhappiness close in, Polly turns to desperate plans, then heads into the countryside, where his aimless wandering opens the possibility of a different life.
