After a wrong train carries five-year-old Saroo away from his village in India, he ends up alone in Kolkata, too young to tell anyone where home is. Sunny Pawar is Saroo as a child, surviving the streets and an orphanage before an Australian couple adopts him and takes him to Tasmania. Years later, Dev Patel's Saroo is living in Australia when fragments of his early life begin to surface again. Armed with only scattered memories, a few names, and Google Earth, he starts trying to trace the family he was separated from decades earlier.
