Alma's Not Normal

The story

In Bolton, Alma is done waiting for life to turn into the fabulous future she pictured for herself. She wants purpose, love and some sense that she belongs somewhere, but every attempt to move forward runs straight into the family she comes from: a chaotic tangle of strained relationships, old hurts and the fallout from the time she spent in care. As Alma tries to build an adult life on her own terms, she also has to reckon with what her upbringing left unresolved. Sophie Willan’s Alma lurches between big hopes, bad decisions and moments of blunt self-recognition as the series finds comedy in how hard it is to reinvent yourself when home keeps pulling you back.
