Carlos Santana tells his own story in a documentary that traces his life and musical trajectory through his words, his performances, and previously unseen footage. The film stays close to Santana as it moves through key points in his career, building a portrait of the guitarist behind the stage persona as well as the musician at work. Cindy Blackman and Gregg Rolie appear as part of that history, adding context around the people and moments that shaped it. Rather than standing outside its subject, the documentary is guided by Santana himself, with the music and archival material doing much of the talking alongside him.
