Nancy Vandergroot thinks she has an orderly life in Holland, Michigan: she teaches school, keeps house, and shares a polished home with her husband (Matthew Macfadyen) and young son. Nicole Kidman is Nancy, whose routines start to fray when she and a friendly colleague, played by Gael García Bernal, become suspicious of a secret. What begins inside a tulip-lined, tightly kept community starts pressing in on Nancy’s marriage, her work, and the image she has of her own family.
