Fourteen years after his first trip, Sacha Baron Cohen is Borat Sagdiyev, back in the United States on another absurd assignment from Kazakhstan. This time he arrives with his daughter, Maria Bakalova’s Tutar, and the two barrel into a country consumed by the 2020 election and the COVID-19 pandemic. The sequel keeps Borat’s prank-documentary setup intact, using disguises, interviews, and encounters with politicians and everyday Americans as Borat tries to carry out a new diplomatic mission. Beneath the chaos, the father-daughter pairing gives the film a clearer throughline than the earlier cross-country odyssey.
