In 1862, a band of volunteer Union soldiers is sent to an isolated outpost during the Civil War, far from any clear battle line and cut off from ordinary life. They wait, patrol, and try to hold themselves together as cold, distance, and uncertainty wear them down. With little action to focus them, talk turns to faith, fear, duty, and what they think this war is asking of them. Every routine task carries the sense that something could break at any moment, whether from an enemy they barely see or from the strain inside the camp itself. Roberto Minervini keeps the story close to the men as waiting becomes its own kind of ordeal.
