After the death of her best friend, 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein moves back to New York after decades in Florida, trying to rebuild a life that suddenly feels unmoored. June Squibb is Eleanor, witty, stubborn, and still able to unsettle everyone around her, while Erin Kellyman enters the picture as a 19-year-old student who becomes an unexpected friend. As Eleanor settles into the city, a story she tells starts to take on a life beyond her control, pulling grief, Jewish identity, and questions of who gets to tell which stories into the foreground.
