Fourteen-year-old Filipa spends a summer with her family on the Brazilian coast in the 1980s, where her sexual awakening collides with the discovery that her father is unfaithful. Laura Neiva is Filipa, taking in the adults around her with a mix of curiosity and growing unease, while Vincent Cassel's father, a well-known writer, brings strain and secrecy into the household. Camilla Belle is the young American woman at the center of the affair. As Filipa starts to understand more than the adults think she does, the family's beachside routine gives way to suspicion, silence, and private resentments.
