Censor
HorrorMysteryThriller84 min
In 1980s Britain, BBFC censor Enid begins to come apart after a grubby horror film echoes the long-unsolved disappearance of her sister. Niamh Algar is Enid, known at work as the strictest judge of screen violence, coolly cutting gore from the era’s “video nasties” until one low-budget title cuts too close to her own past. As an anonymous phone call and a film canister sharpen her fixation, the line between the images she’s policing and the memories she can’t trust starts to blur. Michael Smiley is among the figures drawing her deeper into the exploitation-film world around the case.
