When New York cop Charlie Lang can’t afford to tip at a diner, he promises waitress Yvonne Biasi half of his lottery ticket instead. Nicolas Cage is Charlie, a decent patrolman whose offhand offer suddenly matters when the ticket wins $4 million, while Bridget Fonda’s Yvonne is a hard-pressed waitress caught in the middle of an unlikely bargain. At home, Charlie’s marriage starts to buckle under the money. Rosie Perez’s Muriel wants the winnings for herself, turning a simple act of kindness into a public fight over greed, fairness, and whether Charlie will keep his word.
