Drama123 minWatch trailer

In provincial Germany at the turn of the 20th century, aspiring painter Paula Becker refuses the narrow life expected of her and insists on making art on her own terms. Carla Juri is Paula, a young woman whose bond with fellow artist Otto Modersohn (Albrecht Schuch) grows from shared work into marriage, even as the conventions around them push against both her independence and her vocation. Following the woman who would become Paula Modersohn-Becker, the film centers on artistic ambition, love, and the cost of trying to build an unconventional life in Worpswede’s conservative world.
