B.J. Novak is Ben Manalowitz, a New York journalist and podcaster who heads to West Texas after the death of a woman he’d been casually seeing and finds himself turning the trip into a murder-mystery podcast. As Ben moves from funeral rites to interviews and half-formed theories, the woman’s family pulls him deeper into questions he wasn’t planning to ask. Boyd Holbrook is the grieving brother who pushes Ben to investigate, while Lio Tipton is the young woman whose death sets everything in motion. The film keeps one foot in media satire and the other in small-town grief, suspicion, and regional detail.
