A rare-book dealer is hired to verify whether a 17th-century volume is one of the few surviving copies of a text said to hold the key to summoning the Devil. His search pulls him from private libraries to shadowy collectors across Europe, where every engraving, annotation, and missing page becomes a clue. As he compares the copies, the job turns deadly: rivals circle the book, owners die under strange circumstances, and ordinary greed starts to look like something darker. Johnny Depp plays the investigator at the center of the hunt, following a trail where scholarship, obsession, and the occult begin to blur.
