A bickering couple’s already strained relationship gets a jolt when a 10-year-old boy shows up claiming to be Erasmus’ grandson. Steve Coogan is Erasmus, sharp-tongued and self-involved, opposite Paul Rudd’s Paul, his partner in a household built around comfort and avoiding responsibility. Jack Gore’s unexpected arrival throws that routine into chaos, forcing both men to confront a child who needs more from them than either is prepared to give. As the boy’s family history starts pressing in, with Alison Pill among the adults around him, the film keeps its focus on domestic friction, improvised parenting, and a very uneasy idea of family.
