Four childhood friends reunite as adults when Chrissy is about to have her first baby, and the visit brings them back to the summer of 1970 that shaped all four of them. Christina Ricci is young Roberta, the boldest of the group, alongside Samantha, Teeny, and the sheltered Chrissy as they spend a season trading secrets, facing bullies, testing dares, and stumbling toward adolescence. In the present, Rosie O'Donnell's Roberta reconnects with Rita Wilson, Demi Moore, and Melanie Griffith as the women compare memories of the same pivotal summer. The film moves between their small-town girlhood and the lives they built afterward.
