Annie
ComedyDramaFamilyMusical119 min
Annie is a cheerful, street-smart foster kid in 2014 New York, still holding on to the promise that her parents will come back for her someday. Quvenzhané Wallis is Annie, stuck under the roof of Cameron Diaz’s sour foster mom, Miss Hannigan, until a chance encounter puts her in the spotlight. Jamie Foxx’s Will Stacks, a billionaire and mayoral candidate, takes her in as a campaign-friendly gesture, with Rose Byrne’s polished VP and Bobby Cannavale’s scheming adviser watching the optics. As Annie adjusts to Stacks’s world, the film reworks the familiar story around modern city life, politics, and big musical numbers.
