Six Californians start a Jane Austen book club and soon notice that the misunderstandings, romances, and disappointments in the novels have a way of turning up in their own lives. Maria Bello and Amy Brenneman are part of the group as each meeting around Austen’s books opens onto troubles at home, shifting friendships, and new attachments. The story moves between lively discussion and contemporary California relationships, using the club’s shared reading to connect marriages in trouble, flirtations, and quiet reckonings with the kinds of choices Austen’s characters know well.
