Hercules is sent from Mount Olympus to modern Manhattan, where the mythic strongman blunders into city life, tries his hand at professional wrestling, and soon winds up entangled with mobsters. Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his screen debut, is the title hero; Arnold Stang supplies a jittery comic foil among the mortals around him. Shot on New York locations, the film drops a figure from Greek legend into 1970 city streets, mixing divine strength, broad comedy, and gangland trouble as Hercules learns how little Olympus has prepared him for Manhattan.
