The Unbearable Lightness of Being

DramaRomance171 min

In 1960s Prague, surgeon Tomas lives lightly, moving between work and casual affairs until a chance meeting draws him to Tereza (Juliette Binoche), a waitress and aspiring photographer he brings back to the city. Daniel Day-Lewis's Tomas is already entangled with Sabina, his fiercely independent lover, and Lena Olin gives Sabina a cool, restless presence. As the Prague Spring gives way to the Warsaw Pact invasion, the three are pushed from private arrangements into political upheaval, carrying their shifting loyalties from Czechoslovakia to Switzerland.
