Cool Hand Luke

CrimeDrama127 min

After a drunken act of vandalism lands him in an early-1950s Florida prison farm, Luke Jackson (Paul Newman) refuses to bend to the rules of the guards, the chain gang, or the punishment cell known as the box. His defiance first puts him at odds with Dragline, the yard’s resident heavyweight, but George Kennedy’s inmate comes to admire Luke’s stubborn streak. As work details, fights, and escape attempts turn Luke into a figure the other prisoners watch closely, the officers see him as a problem that discipline alone can’t solve.
