Dr. Lawrence Angelo is a virtual-reality researcher whose animal trials have gone nowhere, so he turns to Jobe Smith, a gardener, for a risky experiment in intelligence enhancement. Pierce Brosnan's Angelo feeds Jobe a mix of immersive simulations and brain-boosting drugs, while Jeff Fahey gives Jobe an uneasy innocence that starts to shift as the tests take hold. What begins as a breakthrough quickly grows larger and more dangerous, with Jobe developing abilities Angelo never anticipated and a covert outfit called the Shop taking an interest in the technology for its own purposes.
