A drifter lands in Los Angeles looking for work and finds a city where the billboards, TV signals, and polished storefronts seem to be hiding something. After stumbling onto a cache of strange sunglasses, he puts them on and sees the world stripped bare: advertisements turn into blunt commands, money reveals hidden slogans, and many of the people in power are not human at all. What starts as one man's discovery turns into a fight to prove the invasion is real and to disrupt the signal keeping everyone asleep. Roddy Piper leads the charge as the drifter, with Keith David as the friend pulled into the conflict.
