The Servant
Drama116 min
An idle young aristocrat hires a new manservant, and the balance of the household begins to shift from the inside. James Fox is Tony, a London bachelor who trusts Dirk Bogarde’s Barrett to run his home with quiet efficiency; that arrangement starts to curdle when Barrett persuades him to take on his “sister” as a live-in maid. Sarah Miles arrives as the new servant, while Tony’s girlfriend Susan (Wendy Craig) is wary of Barrett from the start. What begins as domestic routine turns into a study of class, dependency, and control inside a carefully ordered house.
