Miss Firecracker
ComedyDrama102 min
Carnelle Scott wants out from under her reputation as Yazoo City’s “Miss Hot Tamale,” and pins everything on winning the town’s Miss Firecracker contest. Holly Hunter is Carnelle, chasing a Fourth of July crown her older sister won a decade earlier and turning the pageant into a bid for reinvention. Around her, Yazoo City keeps score: family expectations, old gossip, and every awkward step toward respectability. Mary Steenburgen and Tim Robbins fill out Carnelle’s small Mississippi orbit as she pushes toward the talent stage and the version of herself she hopes the town might finally see.
