Chocolat

ComedyDramaRomance121 min

In the winter of 1959, Vianne Rocher arrives in a rural French town with her young daughter and opens a chocolate shop just as Lent begins. Juliette Binoche is Vianne, a newcomer whose gifts for reading people and offering them exactly the right confection start to unsettle a community built around routine, restraint, and churchgoing order. Across the square, Alfred Molina's mayor treats her storefront as a challenge to the moral code he expects the town to follow. What begins as a new business becomes a small-town clash over appetite, tradition, and who gets to decide how people should live.
