The Stepford Wives
ComedyHorrorMysterySci-FiThriller117 min
Joanna Eberhart leaves New York City for Stepford, Connecticut, expecting a quieter life with her husband and children. Katharine Ross is Joanna, an observant newcomer who starts to suspect that the town’s immaculate homes and eerily dutiful wives are concealing something darker. As she grows close to Bobbie (Paula Prentiss), another woman unsettled by Stepford’s polished routines, ordinary neighborhood customs begin to feel increasingly strange. Bryan Forbes’s adaptation of Ira Levin’s novel places domestic perfection, suburban conformity, and the backlash to women’s independence at the center of Joanna’s growing unease.
