In Cold War West Berlin, Coca-Cola executive C.R. “Mac” MacNamara is assigned to babysit his boss’s 17-year-old daughter while angling for a promotion. James Cagney is Mac, a company man whose careful plans collapse when Pamela Tiffin’s Scarlett announces that she’s pregnant by a young Communist from East Berlin. With his boss due in town, Mac races through checkpoints, back-room deals, and official red tape to contain a scandal that keeps getting bigger. Billy Wilder plants the farce in a divided city where corporate ambition, anti-Communist nerves, and family panic all collide.
