Something to Sing About
ComedyMusicalRomance93 min
A New York bandleader heads to California after a studio offers him a movie contract, only to find Hollywood reading his lack of star ambition as arrogance. James Cagney brings his song-and-dance roots to the lead, with Evelyn Daw beside him as the wife who makes the trip west. The story follows his tug-of-war with studio brass and the mismatch between a working musician’s instincts and the machinery of moviemaking, folding romance and musical numbers into a studio-era Hollywood backdrop.
