Withnail and I
ComedyDrama108 min
In 1969 Camden Town, two broke, unemployed actors are barely holding together in a filthy flat, living on drink, nerves, and stalled ambition. Desperate for a change, Withnail and his friend Marwood head to the Lake District with the key to a country cottage owned by Withnail’s wealthy uncle Monty. The escape quickly goes wrong. The cottage is bleak, the weather closes in, the locals are wary, and the pair prove no better at country life than they are at managing themselves in London. As the weekend unravels, their friendship is tested by hunger, irritation, and Monty’s arrival, turning a simple retreat into a string of increasingly uncomfortable encounters.
