When a young actress dies after completing her first and only film, the Hollywood press agent who loved her brings her body back to her hometown and tries to honor her final wish: three days of church bells after her burial. Fred MacMurray is the man scrambling to make it happen, while Alida Valli is the actress whose death turns a funeral into a public event. As he asks local churches to ring their bells and writes checks he can’t cover, the story tightens around grief, publicity, money, and a last-minute appeal for something beyond business to intervene.
