Michael Shannon is a father on the run after learning that his young son, Alton, has abilities other people want to control. As the pair move through Texas motels, gas stations, and back roads, the search around them widens fast, drawing in a religious sect, local law enforcement, the FBI, and eventually the military. Jaeden Martell's Alton is at the center of the chase, a quiet child whose powers are treated as both threat and revelation. The story stays close to the family as helicopters, roadblocks, and government scrutiny close in.
