After a disqualification wipes out his shot at the Olympics, Jamaican sprinter Derice Bannock sets his sights on an almost unheard-of backup plan: building a national bobsled team for the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary. Leon is Derice, all drive and optimism, while John Candy’s former Olympian Irving Blitzer is the coach he recruits to train four complete beginners for a sport they’ve never touched. With teammates pulled together from the island’s streets and tracks, the team heads from Jamaica to icy Canada carrying borrowed equipment, bruised pride, and the attention that comes with showing up where nobody expects them.
