Days after Pearl Harbor, panic spreads across Los Angeles as rumors of a Japanese attack turn the city into a battlefield of its own making. Soldiers, civilians, and jittery officials lurch from one escalating crisis to the next: anti-aircraft crews brace for an enemy that may or may not be there, a wild pilot keeps looking for a fight, and ordinary nights out spiral into public chaos. As fear and confusion pile up, traffic jams, brawls, and military blunders push the city toward disaster. Steven Spielberg stages the wartime hysteria as farce, with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd among the many people caught in the uproar.
