The Number 23

CrimeDramaMysteryThriller101 min

Walter Sparrow, an animal control officer, starts reading a strange novel and becomes convinced it was written about him. Jim Carrey is Walter, whose fixation on the book’s recurring number 23 deepens as its troubled narrator and buried crimes begin to mirror details of his own life. The novel was a birthday gift from his wife, with Virginia Madsen alongside Carrey as the person closest to him while the coincidences keep piling up. Joel Schumacher frames Walter’s spiral through split identities, noir imagery, and a steady blur between what’s on the page and what may be waiting for him outside it.
