In a worn, inner-city stretch of London, a successful landscape architect finds his orderly life disrupted after a series of robberies puts him in contact with a teenage thief and the boy’s mother. Jude Law is the architect, pulled away from work and home as his involvement deepens. Juliette Binoche’s Amira is a Bosnian widow raising a troubled son, and the connection between them turns a chance encounter into an affair. Anthony Minghella’s drama keeps the focus on the overlap between private lives and a neighborhood marked by poverty, migration, and suspicion.
