In 1972, a small plane carrying a Uruguayan rugby team to Chile crashes in the Andes, leaving the survivors marooned in deep snow with little food and no easy way out. Ethan Hawke and Josh Hamilton are among the young men trying to endure the altitude, the freezing nights, and the injuries left by the wreck. As days pass and rations disappear, the group is pushed toward harsher and harsher decisions simply to stay alive. Frank Marshall’s film keeps its focus on the physical ordeal: frostbite, isolation, and the strain of holding together in a mountain landscape that offers no shelter.
