New Yorker Liza Merril inherits an old hotel in Louisiana and sinks her savings into reopening it, unaware that a decades-old murder has left the place tied to something far worse than a haunting. Catriona MacColl is Liza, trying to make sense of ghostly warnings, grotesque accidents, and signs that the building may be one of the gateways to Hell. David Warbeck appears among the few people caught up in the hotel's spreading horror. Directed by Lucio Fulci, the film folds Southern Gothic atmosphere into surreal supernatural terror, with morgue imagery, the undead, and bursts of graphic gore.
