Successful film director Pablo is thrown off balance by trouble with his young lover Juan just as he begins a new monologue for his transgender sister, Tina. In Pedro Almodóvar’s 1987 Spanish film, Eusebio Poncela is Pablo, a man who tries to manage love with the same control he brings to his work. Carmen Maura’s Tina, both sibling and performer, is at the center of his latest project, while Antonio (Antonio Banderas), an uptight young admirer, becomes possessively attached to Pablo and starts to unsettle every part of his life.
