Catherine Deneuve’s Tristana grows up under his authority, while Fernando Rey gives Lope a polished, paternal surface that hides his abuse of power. When she falls for a painter named Horacio, played by Franco Nero, the possibility of a life beyond Lope’s house begins to take shape. What starts as a dependent arrangement shifts into a contest over freedom, desire, and who gets to decide Tristana’s future.
